Loads of comments. Yee, done by me. Trick is 1) color the background temporarily in one color, draw sketches on the "final" color of the background, and once you've drawn & colored on top your sketches just re-color the background with the "sketch color"l 2) draw for years 3) now & then think what you draw, look model & stuff. I dunno.

Also worthy to mention I have (old) drawing tablet, so I (might) have an edge compared to peeps who only got mouse. But stuff. Motivation & effort goes far. I assume.
